After completing this section you should be able to perform the following objectives.

3. Describe an oxidation-reduction reaction.

4. Define dehydrogenation and hydrogenation.

5. State the function of the following coenzymes and give their reduced form:

a. NAD+
b. FAD
c. NADP+

6. Briefly describe proton motive force and how it develops within a cell.

7. Describe an electron transport chain and state its cellular function.

8. Briefly describe the chemiosmotic theory of generation of ATP as a result of an electron transport chain.

9. State the function of ATP synthases.
