RNA is synthesized by complementary base pairing of free ribonucleotides with the deoxyribonucleotides of a gene. The enzyme responsible for transcription is RNA polymerase. (Xs represent the ribonucleotides for the ribosome binding site prior to the Start codon AUG.)
