Aminoglycosides Blocking Translation by causing a Misreading
of theCodons along the mRNA

The figure on the left illustrates the normal reading of the codons along the mRNA and the order of the amino acids coded for. The figure on the right shows an aminoglycoside binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, distorting that subunit, and causing a misreading of the codons. This alters the order of amino acids in the protein being assembled.
