Passive Transport of Substances Across a Membrane

Uniporters are transport proteins that transports a substance across a membrane down a concentration gradient from an area of greater concentration to lesserr concentration. Since it is powered by a concentration gradient and does not require metabolic energy, it is known as passive transport. This process is also called facilitated diffusion.
