Fig. 11A: Phagocytosis - Step 1

Phagocytosis is the ingestion of solid particles by endocytosis. The cytoplasmic membrane invaginates and pinches off placing the particle in a phagocytic vacuole (endodome). The phagocytic vacuole then fuses with lysosomes and the material is degraded.
