Fig. 33: Nucleosomes

The DNA in eukaryotic cells is packaged in a highly organized way. It consists of a basic unit called a nucleosome, a beadlike structure with 146 base pairs of DNA wrapped around eight histone molecules. The nucleosomes are linked to one another by a segment of DNA approximately 60 DNA base pairs long.
